In just over 2 years Google estimates that ½ of all web site visits will be via mobile device. Today ½ of Facebook's traffic is from Mobile users.
Most of the mobile traffic to websites is now coming from Apple mobile products, however that's rapidly changing as other devices and operating systems like Google's Android are catching up.
Should I do an app or a mobile website? We are regularly asked this question by our clients and it is not an easy answer, however in most cases we are recommending mobile websites versus apps.
Some other industry best practices we are recommending are:
- Supply all or most of your content to all devices
- Emphasize the most important content for your mobile users, such as maps and contact us
- Understand that your content will be displayed differently on different devices
- Simplify your content for easier access
- Focus on usability to ensure your content is easily found
